About Kieran:
Eventually finding himself in the Printmaking department of the Limerick School of Art where he studied under the wonderful Des McMahon amongst others. It was here under the encouragement of Des and his peers where Kieran managed to successfully discover and hone his style which has sometimes been referred to as Grunge art.
Artist Statement:
Kieran’s work is a collection of drawings, paintings and prints on recycled card and repurposed materials. Described as grunge art with influences from art movements such as Art Brut, Naive Art Pop Art and Outsider Art, Kieran Keeps a visual diary once described as a disjointed biography. Moments of personal struggle and hard truths as well as social and political views can be found hidden amongst strange creatures with funny toothy smiles, distorted versions of cute creatures and various nonsensical doodles. Often Kieran breaks from his usual salon gallery style of oversaturation to apply his art habit to one off large drawings in mixed media usually utilising charcoal, ink, acrylic and coffee staining amongst other materials, usually on large canvases made from wallpaper backing. Kieran also likes to create music in his spare time.
You can find more of his art on his website : www.kieranherlihy.com
